Wie oft höre ich: "Ich habe keine Zeit..."How often do I hear people say, “I don’t have time…”
I don’t have time to
continue my education,
eat healthy,
volunteer,
exercise,
or even sleep enough,
go to the doctor or the hairdresser,
or learn a new language.
Did you recognize yourself in that list?
Sure, we’re all incredibly important and even more incredibly busy. But with what? What exactly takes up those 168 hours we all get each week? I wrote it all down for myself and was shocked to see how much free time I actually have left.
| Total | Time | Activity |
|---|---|---|
| 168 hours | 7 × 8 hours | Night sleep |
| 112 hours | 7 × 2 hours | Personal care |
| 98 hours | 30 hours | Work (in my case) |
| 68 hours | 7 × 2 hours | Cooking and eating |
| 54 hours | 4 hours | Commuting |
| 50 hours | 8 hours | Shopping / cleaning / laundry |
| 42 hours | 3 × 2 hours | Exercise |
| 36 hours | — | Free time to plan |
According to this calculation, I still have 36 hours per week to do all kinds of other things. Some of you are probably shouting right now, “But my day is already packed!” Yes, true. Mine is too — even though I supposedly have those 36 “extra” hours.
This is pure math, just theory at first. After this concept was presented to us at a training, I tried it myself — mainly to “prove” the speaker wrong.
So I started reorganizing my day. Just like back in school, I wrote myself a schedule. Only now it’s not divided into class periods — I list the hours from 5:00 AM to 8:30 PM.
From 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM is my main job. After that, I take a break, just like every employee should. Then I continue with the rest of my day: exercise, housework, shopping, and so on. Every Friday, I add any work-related appointments that don’t fit into that main time block, and I plan the rest around them. On Sundays, I go over all appointments with my husband and add those too.
The difference is that I write everything down now. It makes it more real — and more binding.
Find the time to take care of yourself and your health. Otherwise, the day will come when everything else becomes secondary, and your health will force you to make time…
Write in the comments how you organize your time.
